When choosing the appropriate hockey
camp for you and your child you must consider several things. Choose a hockey camp that
has a personality and style that suits your child. Investigate the camp, its directors,
and staff, and speak to other parents whose children have attended the hockey camp.
Things to consider should be finding a hockey camp that will
play to your childs strengths and weaknesses, his or her medical needs, dietary
restrictions, the cost of the camp, co-ed, or single sex camps, length of stay and
distance from your home.
Always insure that the camp is reputable and has experience
in dealing with children. There should be a doctor or nurse on hand at all times during
the hockey camp. You should also investigate the ages and experience of the coaches and
staff members at the camp.
The hockey camp should offer activities that will encourage
your child as well as teaching them the fundamentals of hockey. The strengths your child
possesses should be conditioned. The camp should offer training and a chance to improve on
their weaknesses.
Attending a hockey camp helps your child learn independence
and offers the opportunity to learn skills that they other wise might not be able to learn
in the confines of one coach.
If the camp is expensive, it is likely that the directors will offer a
scholarship or some other form of financial aid. You will need to apply for this early on,
as generally there is only a limited amount of funds available.
