One of the dads on my sons hockey team was on the phone with his wife and was excited because his daughters team beat honeybaked to go to Nationals so I assume it is the Ice Breakers. I will see him on the 18th as we are going to watch the CCHA Super 6 Championship. What info are you looking for and I will ask?

Congratulations to the TPH Thunder U-16AAA Girls Hockey team on an outstanding showing at the Southeastern District Tournament. They beat a big, very good skating Montgomery Blue Devil team who had several players from Florida who were recruited by the TPH team before the season began. Each one of them spurned the TPH team and opted to play for the Montgomery team thinking that they would have a free ticket to the National tournament while many of their parents told the coaching staff that their daughters were too good to play on the TPH team.
WAY TO GO TPH THUNDER!! Your performance was impressive. Good luck at Nationals.
Montgomery came in 4th in their 6 team regular season league games. They definitely did not have the talent to go to the nationals as the Quakers, who won the league and Atlantic Division slot will probably not be competitive with the New England entry.

Oh, don't misunderstand me. I don't expect the TPH Thunder Team to challenge this year at the national tournament, not by a long shot. That said and taking your comments into consideration, the TPH team did play the Lady Quakers at the Phily tournament and lost a very close game by a score of 3-1. TPH played most of the game in the penalty box and still managed to equal the Lady Quakers in total shots on goal.
The Montgomery game was impressive based upon the level of intensity that the girls played. Shots on goal were not even close and the amount of scoring chances that Montgomery had during the game couldn't have been any more than 2, at best. Although the Montgomery team is a very good skating team, they really don't have much scoring punch other than maybe one girl. The final score was 6-0. All in all, not bad for a first year team from the State of Georgia and definitely bodes well for a strong showing next year considering that most of the girls who play on the team are between the ages of 13 and 15.
By the way, my prediction at the U-16 level is that Team Illinois will win and avenge their loss from the previous year to the California Selects.
I would agree with your assessment as one of the big factors in skill level is that I believe that the Selects and Team Illinois are more tournament teams while the entries from Atlantic and other NE conferences are individual teams. The larger pool of talent will usually win out.......but then again as seen in the Olympics....there is a lot to be said about skating together as a team!!
