Does anyone know why the tournament director from this past weekends' Tier I tournament would ask the Baron's coach BEFORE the game if he would like to have an on ice ceremony after the game? The game had yet to get underway and it appeared that the winner was already determined. After watching the game, it was clear that the Cincinnati team got the short end of the referee stick. At one time they had 5 kids in the box. The refs missed several head checks by the Barons and the slashing calls on the Cyclones were weak. Given the chance to play full strength for any length of time, the boys from Cincinnati could have cleary taken the boys from Cleveland. Too bad they didn't have an even playing field in such a tournament. By the way, don't have interest in either team; was there for the game afterwards. Anyone else see this game?

It's a fairly common practice for tourney directors to ask such a question beforehand - helps them make sure arrangements are made to have things like a mic on hand, awards available, have the zamboni guy wait, etc. Doesn't mean that any winner was predetermined.

Not sure if the Barons had things wrapped already are not - if so, that could be whay they asked them. They also could have asked the Cincy coach the same question (if both teams in contention), you don't know that they didn't. I have been involved personally (as a team manager) several times where I know both teams were asked such a question. Some teams, especially at the older age groups, prefer to have thier coach hand out awards in the locker room, while younger teams like do it on the ice in front of family.

re: officiating. It's Columbus, not exactly known for it's overall quality in officiating. It was pretty inconsistent all weekend from the games I saw.
