Yep I saw the same thing. I think it was bad that the parents were "taunting" him. No matter what they think of the situation about rostering a AAA player in a A league you cannot blame a 11-12 yr. old boy for it. And if they are not happy he was taunting back after he scored then maybe they shouldnt have started it.

Very good point. I just feel until USA Hockey or better yet the associations themself stop having coaches that play like this coaching it will only get worse. Like I said before it is a great game and would be better if the parents were not there. If you need to see what I mean go watch kids playing pond hockey with no rules but their own

Hockeyfan hits the nail right on the head with this one. It is the greatest spectacle in sports to watch a talented group of kids play some pond hockey. I could watch for hours on end. No scorekeepers, no winner, no loser, no iratate fans, no parents berating officials. Just hockey in it's purest form. | | | |

If I ever found out my son was on a team with a coach that ever said this I would take my child off that team so fast it would make his head spin. And I also would contact whoever I needed to alert them to the fact of what was going on. I worry everytime my son goes on the ice that he could get hurt. I sure as hell dont want to worry that the coach on another team is intentionaly trying to hurt him.

| I wish everyone felt that way YHF. I will not say who it was because their association and Mid-AM will be contacted. In a game two weeks ago their parent in the sin bin yelled out to there players to "take #** heads off" Our dad keeping the time asked if he was telling there kids to hurt our kids. He said your "dam right I am" We had parents from other teams between games come up to us and asked if we had to play them again on this day? When we said yes they said watch out their over there talking about hurting your kids. We then faced them in the tournament. When one of our kids went down hurt their parent in the scorers table was yelling that we should get a penalty for flopping and that our coach called that one for the ref's. Video shows their player stick in both hands pull back and cross check our player in the back of the neck then look at the ref to see if a call would be maded. Now we have played them many times and our first game some of our kids got rough. The differnts is that our coach talked to the kids and suspened some from playing even though nothing was done to get a suspension by USA or BTHL rules. We have 6 games taped that this team played not all of them against us. You see kids punching cross checking and kicking a bunch much more then the norm. I sure would hope that this is taken care of before any kids get hurt theirs or someone elses. This way of playing is not hockey.

| HockeyFan...I know of the incident you're referring to, and you're wrong. No coach on that team instructed his player or players to intentionally hurt an opposing player. A parent in the penalty box had just witnessed his kid getting cracked HARD on top of the head with a stick and he was pissed. This happened after plenty of times when penalties should have been called, but were not. There was no penalty called during this incident, as it occured tailing the play...out of the official's sight. Was he wrong in saying anything? Absolutely. But, I've known this Dad for many years, and he is always leading the charge to have parents remain calm and collected during a game. In this case...the emotion of the incident got away from him, and he knows it. Spend 5 minutes with this father and you'll know what I'm talking about. He cares deeply about youth hockey, and is always wanting "what's right" for the kids. We had four (4) rough and tumble league games with this team (25 penalties / 66 minutes), and I'm glad they're over.
I agree with you about watching kids play pond hockey. Our team had a birthday party on a crystal clear blue sky day about a month ago...and it was awesome. Some Dads and siblings joined in, and it was simply a great day. Hockey at it's purest form. | | | | Posts: 81 | Location: Indianapolis | Registered: February 03, 2004 |
