Thanks. That must have been a great game. Those are both very good teams that have gone back and forth all season. Seems that Southern Ohio hockey is alive and well with two teams in Squirt finals and with Cincy 92s also winning PW regionals to move on to Nationals. Congratulations to all. I can tell you, this Southern Ohio success has not been lost on Cleveland. Many up there are starting to rethink how they do things.

I've been hearing that the last time a CAHA team made nationals was in 1997 Does anyone know what the age was? Just curious

Some in Cleveland view the Southern Ohio teams as select teams; whereas to play in CSHL there are limits to the ability to move from one Cleveland team to another. Some in Cleveland are rethinking whether they are "watering down" their tier II teams when they face teams like Cincy 92 and Cincy 94 which are largely the best players (with of course some exceptions) from the entire city of Cincy. Some are saying that if they combined the best from, for example, Parma, CSC, Shaker, Gilmour, N.O., and others, they would beat Cincy consistently and easily. Go to the CSHL website's forum and you will see what I am talking about.

As you know, Cleveland does have teams with good talented players from all of those locations. They are the Barons AAA and the Panthers AAA teams.

It appears that the southern Ohio clubs are the ones rethinking their future (by considering joining the EEAHL), which is the right thing to do. Cleveland diehards may not like the fact that a southern Ohio team earns the title in a given year. But, at least their kids are getting a lot of playing time and experience without having to travel too much (in league play).

It looks like a blind draw threw the top teams into the same bracket in the Peewee Major division (just from comments that I read on the CSHL forum). If true, that most likely diminished their chances to advance, although I understand the Cincy '92 team is a good, solid, deserving team. Mid-Am probably won't make that mistake again. Well, then again...

Based on CBJNut's posting in the EEAHL thread, coupled with a little internet searching, the Columbus Squirt picture is getting clearer -- or is it?

With tryouts only a month away, Cardinal's webpage has announced that they are putting together 95 and 96 teams (with coaches already named)and they are playing in the BTHL (although it's interesting because the 96 team claims to be playing in the BTHL's "Squirt AA Minor", but according to Len, that's not even on the table).

Next is CCYHA, they have identified four teams, Squirt 95 "major" (isn't 95 and "major" the same thing???), Squirt 95 "minor" (now I am really confused); Squirt 96 "major" (?) and Squirt 96 "minor" (hello, redundant). Head coaches have been named, but the league they will compete in seems to be up in the air.

And finally, based on the representations of one "S.Sharkey" on the OhioTalksHockey board, Capitals are going to have 95 and 96 AAA teams that play in the EEAHL. No coaches named.

By my count, that's 8 Squirt teams -- 2 AAA and 6 AA (unless "minor" in CCYHA-speak mean "A") -- Wow!

CCYHA is going by birth year teams (not a new idea in youth hockey). The major/minor is simply that - a first picked team at a given birth year (hence major) and a second picked team at the same birth year (now you're getting it - minor). As far as Cardinal '96 going Squirt AA - wow - a big jump for a team that finished third in the 4 team BTHL Mite AA last year (and some of their better players were'97's). Gotta love the "off season" of youth hockey!
