Further, I realize that the "Goalie" may not be your child but you have taken on this battle and I am now curious as to the answers. Please update!

Icer9fan, I post at the danger of you somehow indicating I am also "waging a battle," but help me out here. We were informed of a situation and there is discussion of the actual facts of that situation and what steps are being taken. I, along with others, certainly would like to know the final resolution of this matter. I would guess that the Toledo parents want this resolved appropriately as well so that no questions are left to linger about what did or did not happen. I don't think that is any kind of "battle" nor do I think that anyone is "foolish" for continuing a discussion about the risks of such an act. Name calling however, in my opinion, does seem a bit juvenile and not called for. While I do not know if there really is an investigation with the Prosecutor going on, the facts, IF TRUE, could be a first degree misdemeanor in Ohio. Ohio Revised Cose § 2903.13 provides: (A) No person shall knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm to another or to another's unborn. (B) No person shall recklessly cause serious physical harm to another or to another's unborn.
(C) Whoever violates this section is guilty of assault. Except as otherwise provided in division (C) (1), (2), (3), (4), or (5) of this section, assault is a misdemeanor of the first degree. The crime can be an intent crime. In my humble opinion, however, this person was probably more "reckless" than "knowingly" acting in this manner, therefore some physical harm would be required. (This is not intended as legal advice for either of the parties nor should it be relied upon as same.) As I said before, this board is about keeping folks informed about what is going on and letting the full story, hopefully, be told. No witch hunts, no petty name calling, just a discussion of the facts as known to the participants (which may or may not be all the facts, admittedly) and a chance to discuss the implications of those facts and opinions related to same. That's all.

CBJ, I do not believe that I have been involved in any of the name calling. If you are refering to the word "foolish" then perhaps I may have over stepped my bounds. It is however my "opinion". Please accept my apologize for speaking to harshly, I certainly would not wish to have it misrepresented as a "slanderous" comment. I do however feel that this matter should be done and over with, if in fact the player in question was not harmed. The point that I am making is the fact that today's society is so caught up in the misuse of the courts it is sickening. I also strongly feel that this was a uncalled for act (the laser) by a overzealous parent. Was harm meant, probably not. Was harm done, that was what I was asking about. That is all that should matter! Do I ever want to see it happen at one of my games, NO WAY! I just think that any suggestion about litagation is way out of line, if question 1 and 2 where answered, Yes he is fine! I am tired of America's three favorite words being "I'm suing you!" and not "God Bless America!" Boy, I hope that doesn't start a seperation of church and hockey discussion. Let's get on with the Game!

If this is an uncalled for act and you would not want it to happen in one of your games then the matter cannot be closed. The matter should be closed when the facts are discovered and a policy is in place and enforced that will stop this from happening again. How about any parent/s found to disrupe the game in anyway laser, throwing object on the ice, ect.... will be suspened for all league games for a period of X number of games, months, years, ect.....
