BTHL RULES STATE-

Bantam
Games will be played with 14 minute periods where possible. Where there is not enough ice time for 14 minutes, 12 minutes will be acceptable. If there is enough time for more than 14 minutes, both coaches must be in agreement and the scoresheet must be initialed by both coaches prior to the start of the game, indicating agreement. If one coach is not agreeable with longer periods, 14 minutes will be used.

So my question is this. I understand scrimmages and whatnot but why does the rules state that 12 mins. are acceptable?? This just begs for teams not to schedule ice for 1 1/2 hours. This weekend we played 2 different teams at the same rink. One team on Sat. and one on Sun. but games times for one team were 12 min periods and the other 14 min.?? Also I couldnt believe the difference in the officiating. Wide range of way the games were called. It was almost as after each game the next game the rules were relaxed a little bit more.

Bantam games SHOULD be scheduled with 14 min periods and anything less should be the exception. At the time the rule was written we were of the opinion that some flexibility would be in order. With travel distances and the costs involved we didn't want games canceled if the ice time ran just a little short. With that in mind the line was drawn at a minimum of 12 minute periods. Note that this wording (with different times plugged in for different age groups) has been used for close to 10 years now and to my knowledge it's not been abused.

The officiating I have seen so far has been very inconsistent. Some refs are calling the games the way they have been called in the past and others are calling everything. It's not just a difference from city to city either. We had two home games a week ago where we had different referees for each game. In the first game nothing was called, but in the second game everything was called. It's hard for the kids to adjust to the "new rules" if all the referees aren't on the same page.

I should have asked why they didnt start the first games with 14 min. when it happened so I wont speculate why they were 12 min. They may have had a good reason for it. Just going into the first league games at 12 min from the getgo was surprizing.

Also on a side note it is very hard to input all the game information into the system when teams do not input the kids correct jersey numbers into the BTHL site. Also some of the kids are not listed on the team on the BTHL website. So I hope I didnt make too much work for you today when I screwed up the inital postings of the stats.

Regarding the missing players, both the Fort Wayne teams have stamped rosters on file and the online roster should be complete. Jersey #s may be inaccurate, but all the names should have been there. If not then they should have submitted copies of their USA Hockey roster addendums to the division director. He's out of town right now and it's possible there could be a lag in paper work.

As for the stats, that's the exact reason we ask that teams input accurate jersey #s. As you found out first hand, stats are very hard to enter when you have to translate numbers. Managers could even potentially enter different home and away #s, the system will use the correct # depending on which team is listed as the home team. Note that jersey numbers can still be corrected, stats will automatically transfer to the new number.

The Komets played the first game with 12's and the second with 14's after the coaches discussed. They have 1 1/4 hour not 1 1/2 hour of ice so 14's don't always work with 1 1/4. And if you do read the rule, it is very unclear and does not say that 14's are manditory.

For some reason game one was moved to an earlier start time. 8:30am

Game two was also moved to an earlier 11:15am start time.

There was nobody on the ice in between these games. Why not use 1.5 hours (14 min periods) if the ice is available? Just curious.
