Dayton peewee AA beat Indy Peewee Gold 6-2 and 11-4 this weekend. Dayton is a very strong team, especially offensively. They turn mistakes into goals very easily. Noticed a couple area's where they aren't as strong and they could have trouble in Silver Sticks and against top level AA because of it. Power play just seemed OK, considering they were much better than the Indy Gold their PP should have been more dominant. But shorthanded they were excellent, they got several shorties. Also the area they seem weakest in is goaltending. 6 goals on 18 shots over two games against an average AA team will could translate into many goals from some of the top level midwest AA teams. Maybe the backup goalie played both games, I don't know. Still a very good team, came as advertised. Lots of size, speed puckhandling ability and scoring touch.

Indy Racers Peewee Gold also defeated Fort Wayne Peewee AA 7-1 and 7-2.

My apologies to MYHockey fans. I was out of town last week and experienced some growing pains where I max'ed out my database connections for my website and it ground things to a crawl. Last week I made some quick fixes and was able to complete some more comprehensive fix yesterday.

Don't hesitate to send email to director@midwestyouthhockey.com if you have more problems.

Couple of notes on this. Score sheet did not note type of goal. However Indy recieved 10 pentaltys over the two games, on two of those Dayton was only on the power play for 1:00 the other 8 full 2:00 pentalties Dayton scored on 5 of those. Also out of the 6 goals 2 were defections and 2 were on rebounds only two were clean first shot goals. Also Goalies that sometimes go 10:00-15:00 with out a shot tend to loose a little focus.

Well you remember better than I do then, I know there were several shorties scored on Indy but I guess I wasn't paying as much attention when they were a man or more down.

I'd like to add that goalies that take 20 shots in 10:00 to 15:00 tend to loose their minds, just a little goalie humor there. doh

Looks like Dayton made a good Choice to go IND. They did not advance in Silver stick due to a bad game against Toledo. We will see if they have learned their lesson for State. They however DID have a good weekend in Detroit against 3 of the LCAHL Ranked division this past weekend. Wins against Cranks 94, Troy Sting 94 and USA Eagles with 8 goals for and ONLY 3 against on 74 shots for a save % of 96% against 3 of the top 25 teams, so I guess the goalies faired pretty well against the top AA tallent??

Knew you wouldn't let that dig about your goalies go forever. Nice showing in Hockeytown.

Ohio state tournament is shaping up to look like a tough battle with Dayton the odds on favorite to win dispite the recent losses to both N.O. and Sylv. and the not so recent loss to Toledo at Silverstick. It could be anybody's championship.
Who's set of 12 year olds will want it most? crazy

Geez, my comments earlier this season were anything but a dig on the Dayton AA goaltending or the team in general. I'm a goaltenders Dad so NO it was not a 'dig' on thier goaltending. I was trying to make some contructive comments on that team since their goal this season was to be one of the top Midwest AA Peewee teams.

At that time my observation was that Dayton was an excellent team but that their strength (compared to the top midwest peewee AA teams) appeared to be with their forward players and not their goaltending based on our kids two games against them.

Now that a full season has progressed I see that they do have good goaltending (I was told Dayton had good goaltending before the season that was why I was suprised when our boys scored 6 goals on 18 shots in two games against them)and Dayton has a good shot to win Ohion State Tourney and possibly the Midwest Regional.

I also agree that Dayton went in the right direction playing independent and glad they stayed out of the Buckeye league. Our boys won the Buckeye league championship and had a 17-1-2 regular season record, Dayton beat us handily earlier in the season so they would have really taken it to all the teams in the league if they were in it.

I would have liked to have seen our boys play Dayton at the end of the season though. We probably would have been on the losing end again but I think we would have kept it close, our defense and goaltending has improved alot since those earlier season games. Recently this month we played a solid Canadian peewee AA team that had a 17-8-3 Ontario league record and really went toe to toe with them losing a real close game 2-1, shots were even 18 a piece.

Anyways good luck to all the teams looking to go to nationals, when is the Ohio State Tournament? Those games should be good!
