Direct from the WWW.IYHA.COM website --Time to weigh in ...Related to Post on General Discussion website ------ Breaking News - All Tryouts Postponed On Thursday, July 28, 2005, an agreement was reached to merge all youth travel hockey programs in the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area. Members of the CIYHA, IAHA, and IYHA have worked diligently over the course of the past week to pull together all three travel programs in an effort to build a unified, highly competitive hockey program intended to benefit the most important members of our hockey community - our players. This announcement, in conjunction with the recent acceptance of the Checkers program into the Central States Developmental Hockey League are considered to be two very key building blocks for the development of our current and future players and program.
Please understand that this is no easy task and that there are many details still being worked on, that said, ALL TRYOUTS ARE BEING POSTPONED FOR TWO WEEKS, to allow teams to be re-slotted (for tryout purposes) accordingly. Expect to see tryouts begin the week of August 15th, and expect little impact to coaches or numbers of teams. More details are forthcoming - in the meantime, please continue to monitor this site, and communicate with coaches as you have been recently.
Sounds like this will be the best for Indy hockey. This should get all the strongest players on the strongest teams. I just hope it was done for all the wright reasons. Hopefully it will last longer than the Checkers AAA Did.

Just wondering if this merger will work out. I have been hearing 'rumblings' from people around the rinks about teams splitting off. Anyone heard anything?
Teams cannot just split off as they will not have the needed USA Hockey number. However, Fishers, who was not supposed to have travel hockey, is starting a "All-Star" program to play travel in the Buckeye. To top it off the Racers new board allow the guy from Fishers to sit on their board for travel hockey. So I guess there will be another choice for travel in Indy outside of the now combined organization playing under the Racers.

It's a shame what happened to the Mite teams there this year. Not that Columbus is any better. With cities our size, it stinks that we can't get the best birth year kids to play together. Oh well, this is what happens when parents and organizations can't play nice together.
