4/22/09: U18 & U16 invited to join Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (MWEHL)
The Ohio AAA Blue Jackets are proud to announce the U18 and U16 teams have been invited to join the ultra competitive Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (formally named Mid West Elite Hockey League) for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
“This is huge for our program and we are very excited to be a part of the best AAA league in the United States. We want the best competition and exposure for our players and the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League has it. The top AAA programs in the US are a part of this league and we are thrilled to be included. This is a big step for us as a program”, added Program Coordinator, Ed Gingher.
At the U18 level, there will be 5 divisions of 5 teams in each division. The U16 divisions are still being determined. The U18 divisional breakdown is as follows:
West – LA Kings, LA Selects, Colorado Rampage, Colorado Thunderbirds, PF Changs
Central – Ohio AAA Blue Jackets, Cleveland Barons, St. Louis Blues, Russell Stover Stars, Dallas Stars
Detroit – Little Caesars, Honeybaked, Compuware, Belle Tire, Victory Honda
Chicago – Team Illinois, Chicago Mission, Chicago Young Americans, Chicago Fury, Madison Capitals
East – Boston Advantage, Team Comcast, Buffalo Regals, Pittsburgh Hornets, Philly Jr. Flyers
2009-10 scheduling details will follow after the next Tier 1 Elite Board Meeting on May 4th. (Last season each team played a home and home within their division plus 6 League Showcase events for a total of 46 league games)
