Anyone here know anything about this league? Its a great new league in Ontario, somewhat like what the Metro Junior A league used to be. It has rules that are different than most other leagues.

For example, a big thing is that there can be an unlimited amount of international players per team. Some might say this could take away from hockey being a Canadian sport but the truth is it opens up the gates for much greater competition.

The teams and games are all high caliber and for its first year there has been no major issues or problems. In actuallity many teams from other leagues ( I wont name them here) are considering joining the league in its next season.

The league has also affiliated with the Western Hockey League.

More info can be found on the following pages: http://www.gmhl.net Please post your comments Im interested in hearing what all of you think about this league. Also, I forgot to mention they have specific rights to play against the Russian National under 17 team which will be flying to Ontario in December. This itself is something to look into.

#1 - what is your role in this new league? I only ask because it gives a frame of reference in which to judge your objectivity.

#2 - The WHL is mentioned no where on their site, but the WHA is. Personally, I would run FAR away from anything that is associated with the WHA - just ask fans/parents/players in the SE USA...

#3 - What are the typical fees charged by teams in this league. Team fees, billet fees, other expenses (travel, etc.) ??

#4 - Why do you allow under 17 yr olds? What provisions are made for thier completing their education? What is the impact on a player's NCAA eligibility by participating in this league?

#5 - Why should I send my 15/16 yr old to play in this league?

#6 - Why are none of the league rules, guidelines, etc. posted/available on the site?

#7 - What type of insurance is provided?

#8 - The league is not currently sanctioned by Hockey Canada nor the Canadian Junior A Hockey League, what are the league's plans to become sanctioned?

#9 - What kind of exposure will players in this league get and what is the target goal (Jr A or college)? Keeping in mind that, currently, the QMJHL, WHL, and OHL have banned their member teams from scouting players in this league, and that players playing in this league are ineligible for selection in the OHL Priority Selection Process.

#10 - Why should a 15/16 yr old risk playing in their league if they currently play in the Greater Toronto Hockey League when the GTHL policy is: Any player registered with a GTHL team during the 2005-2006 or 2006-2007 season who participates with any member of the newly formed, unaffiliated Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (which is not recognized by Hockey Canada), will not be permitted to return to a GTHL team for a period of one (1) year.

#11 - Why should I, as a parent of a prospective Jr player, view your league as anything other than an effort to profit off the dreams & hopes of players & their parents?

Parents - I'd suggest doing some serious research and weigh the consequences of joining a team in this league before signing anything...

Run, don't walk, RUN away from this league and its founders. Nothing but a money grab. Broken promises and false advertising.

Gotice,

Why do you say this? Not disputing the fact but would just like to know why? I dont know anything about this league as my son will not be playing juniors.

Been there done that when it was the first time around for the Rattlers (Owners of the league also have owned or currently own the Thornhill Rattlers, Toronto Rattlers, and now Bradford Rattlers) First a Junior league, then a college touring team, now the second time around as a Junior League. Lots of false information given and not enough follow through. Take a look at their roster for this year(Bradford Rattlers) 40 players including 10 goalies for one team. (Who carries 40 players for any team, including the NHL? This isn't football)

Gotice,

Thanks for the reply. This is one of the reasons I created the forum. So that people can post opinions on different things youth hockey. It is a great way for people to gather infomation on things that other people may have some knowledge about.
