How far do you believe is to far to travel to play on a travel team?

My child is right now playing in a prep school and are also looking to play on a new travel team but this team is 2 1/2 to 3 hours away for each travel do you believe this is to far? My child could make all the games and practices because they have a schudel surrounded around all the prep school teams schudels.

Unless this child has a better than average shot to make a Div 1 school team and is being scouted I think that is way (way)too far...

it depends on what kind of travle team if it is a high class or AAA team then heck yes but for anything lower it wouldn't be worth it. But that is just what i think take it for what it is worth

Depends....

1. is player a day or boarding student at the prep school? If boarding, couldn't there be some potential issues with curfew/lights out and other dorm rules?

2. When is homework getting done - afterall, academics id the primary reason for attending a prep school after all.

3. Is that 2.5 - 3 hrs each way or roundtrip? If each way, then yes that is way too far to travel. If round trip, it might be feasible if items 1 & 2 addressed AND the team is a top level team that will provide exposure not available at the prep school (which depending on the prep school, would be hard to do).

1. my child is a day student
2.the homework can be done in the car
3. This is one of the top hockey clubs in the country(polar bears)

Also, the travel would only be done like once a week because the team has a schudel where they play only on sundays during the prep school season so that those at prep schools dont have to miss the practices or games.

If it's only going to be once a week, I don't see the harm in it. We have two or three families on our team that make that type of commute 2-3 times per week. I would not want to do that, but every situation is different. If it's the best situation for him and he's going to get the best coaching, team situation, etc. without sacrificing the priorities (school, rest, nutrition, etc), then go for it.

1. No offense, but it is driving me crazy...it is schedule, schedule.

2. If and only if school can still come first and your son is willing to make the commitment to both teams then I would play for both.

Polar Bear? Isn't that a girls team?
