I am looking for a list or thoughts from this group on the "standard" (or something close to standard!) phrases that goalies use to communicate with the defensmen. A few come to mind:
You got time
One on
Go left/right
screen
Net/back side/get your head out of your !@#$ and pick up the wing on the back side
Does anyone have a good list?
I asked my son, and his input is:
* "Man on" (can add "hard" if man closing hard, "board" if coming from board side
* "no one" if D has time
* "mine" or "me" if he's going to play the puck (in which case the D to the puck side will go towards the near corner/boards to get pass, far side D comes toward front of net)
* "hard around" to pass the puck hard around along the boards
* "back" or "around" to tell D which way to make pass. "right" or "left" can be confusing - to whose right/left?
* "shooter" to let D know he's taking the shooter in odd man rush situation
* "screen"
* "back door" if someone trying to sneak back door
* his team also has a code word (that they change from time to time) to let his wingers
know he's going to make a long outlet pass (to side opposite benches). Normally done when trying to catch the other team dumping in to get a line change.
forgot - "ice"/"no ice" as appropriate
Forwards/wingers also have to be aware of what the goalie is directing the D to do as well.
