What are you expecting when you yell at a referee?

I am curious. My son and I are both referees. We've each had at least one game, Mites and Squirts level, where a coach screamed and yelled at us about a variety of call, including a missed offsides.
What exactly is the point of this? I don't do this when I'm coaching, although I've been on the bench with guys who do. When a coach starts screaming hysterically at me I'm a lot less likely to give that team the benefit of the doubt on borderline calls if there are any. I'm much more impressed by a coach who waits for a whistle and then calls me over politely to ask a queston about a call.

Well, you don't have to give him any explanation on anything. That's what Captains are for. In fact, USA Hockey has a zero tolerance rule.

If I were you, if a coach yells at you, go over to the bench and give him a warning. If he continues to give you lip service, give a 2 min. bench penalty and have in put a player in the box.

If he continues, give him a game and kick him off the bench. This will force you to do a write up, but he will have to go in front of a bords to explain his action.

I know this is an old post...but here is my opinion.

If you see someone yelling at the ref, then that person is not experienced at the sport. The reason being, is that most calls are split 50/50 against you and for you. By screaming at a ref, the ref is going to "look" for anything that is borderline to call against you.

The best approach is to call the ref over....and talk to the ref one on one...not in an open forum(yelling across the hockey rink). The ref will respect you for that, and will usually talk with you about the call.

I've got close to 40 years of hockey experience, and I've never seen a ref reverse his decision by screaming at them. Gotta stay calm.

As per my opinion coaching is difficult than playing. Since coaches need to be perfect and fair enough while taking decision.
