I have coached youth hockey for several years. Through my coaching and education in social work & psychology, I developed a coaching tool called The Captain. The tool is simple. It is a set of detachable letters for designating Captains and Assistants/Alternates. You can choose any player for any game to be a Captain or Assistant.
The letters are done very professionally, match team colors and have been used for many years by myself and many other coaches. I've received much positive feedback about The Captain. The Captain has stood up to heavy body contact while maintaining the high quality of its components through 60 or more games. I have used The Captain to encourage teamwork & to set individual behavior goals as well as an incentive to motivate my players. Some coaches have used it to set performance goals. The main idea behind The Captain is to use it to set goals to illicit the behaviors and attitudes coaches want out of their players. Parents love it.
We have been very encouraged by all the positive feedback we received from both House and Travel coaches all the way up to Midget and High School!
