Hey Commish, all because you are a 3rd picked team does not make you a "B" team. Look at Cincy - their 3rd picked team is "AA". Their 4th and 5th are "A". It is not until you get to 6th do they go "B". By your logic Cincy's 3rd picked team should be "B".

Talent, or lack thereof, is what makes a team "AA", "A", or "B". That is the problem with mid-West hockey. To much emphasis on order of pick, 1st year vs 2nd year, etc. Evaluate talent, then place teams in the correct level.

You team may be a legitimate "B" team - I haven't seen them play, so I can't comment. I'm just pointing out that all because they were picked 3rd does not automatically make them "B".

I agree with what you are saying. But when it gets to the point you dont have to cut kids and you take kids directly out of the house league that have never played travel I think it is safe to say that they should be considered "B". One thing to also consider is evaluate the talent against whom? Michigan hockey? Southern Ohio? It is a big disparity between the two except at the highest levels.

It is never black and white and I can see both sides but no matter who wins the tournament people will always complain and cry foul.

Surprise!!!

Sylvania's 3rd team that plays LC "AA" because they have to but supposedly is a "B" won the Silver Sticks...winning games by 15-0 and 11-0 along the way...

doesnt sound like a drop down team to me...

quick question...if they are a "B" team and forced to play AA by Little Caesers rules, why did they schedule the Cincy "AA" team for non-conference games the weekend of Jan 27-28...why schedule a AA team and drive all that way if you are really a B team??

just wondering...

Like I said earlier in the thread. I have no affiliation with the team. Your best bet would be to contact them if you are really looking for the answer. I have no idea.

What I'm wondering is who are any of you to say what level a team truly is? Can any of you define a AA team, an A team or a B team? Once you get past the first picked team of an organization, nobody truly knows what they have or where they can compete. Many of these "AA" teams are as said the third picked team of an organization. If they were to play against a team from the ranked LCAHL or CSDHL they would be crushed (as Cincinnati was in Indy over thanksgiving). Yet if they play "down" or at the level they are registered through USA Hockey and win a tournament they get bashed. They are in a lose-lose situation.

The Silverstick tournament is known for teams playing down and even playing out of region to make it to the next level. Everyone knows this but yet every year we have people on these forums complaining about it. How about this, don't go!

Hcky_fan........ Great post. This really sums it up well. It is so hard to determine the level of a team. There are alot of factors to consider.

Thanks for posting...
